If you struggle with fitness despite watching what you eat and exercising on a regular basis, it’s not down to bad luck. Despite doing a lot of positive things, you are inadvertently doing something that is holding you back. Worse still, millions of others are in the same boat. And it’s largely down to fitness myths that are commonly spread as though they are gospel.
While you can’t do much to save the millions of people suffering from the same issues, you can at least take control of your journey. So, let’s correct some of the false truths you’ve previously been taught.
Completing The Workout Is Enough
You’ve probably seen social media memes with messages along the lines of “even if you’re running at 2mph, you’re still lapping the guy sat on his sofa”. While there is some truth to this, simply turning up isn’t enough if you want to hit your goals.
The harsh reality is that you’ll need to work hard for those results. Staying motivated is as important during workouts as out of them, which is why a winning playlist is vital. If you aren’t going to feel the burn, you aren’t going to see results.
In turn, you won’t keep up the routines either.
Weight Loss Is All About Cardio
Losing weight is the most common goal shared by beginners and experienced fitness enthusiasts alike. As such, many think that hitting the treadmill or spin bike is the only solution. It isn’t. In fact, you aren’t even aiming to lose weight. You’re aiming to lose fat.
Muscle is denser than fat, so you can maintain the same weight and gain a far better physique. When you buy strength training gym equipment for the home, you also gain a way to release your aggression. After a tough day at work, this can be hugely beneficial.
Similarly, cardio can have a positive impact on your strength training.
Fitness Should Be Painful
While it’s important to push your body to the limit in a positive manner, the idea of ‘no pain, no gain’ is wrong. You should struggle during workouts, but you should not put your body at risk of injury. After all, the repercussions could last a lifetime.
If you have existing bad knees, trade running for swimming. If you have a condition that prevents you from completing an exercise, find an alternative. There’s nothing fun about putting yourself in pain and then needing days to recover. This is the quickest way to reach a point of giving up.
Fitness should be tough, but it should be enjoyable too. Embrace it.
It Has To Be A Personal Journey
On the one hand, it’s true that only you can take responsibility for your fitness journey. However, it would be very naïve to think that you have to face this battle alone. Personal trainers are an obvious source of outside support, but there are plenty of others too.
Adding a competitive edge to workouts will make you work harder. Downloading a fitness buddy App that lets you record and compare your data is a great option. Alternatively, fitness classes and dieting groups can keep you on the right track. You do not need to face it alone.
Or you could set up a blog and use the readers as a motivational tool.
