It’s natural to feel quite stiff and uncomfortable after a solid workout. It’s something that many people struggle to overcome, however. That doesn’t mean that you’ll have to suffer. Multiple methods can be used to do so.

With the sheer volume of recommendations, it could be difficult to determine which ones are effective. Some will have more of an impact than others. While you might want to experiment with a few methods, knowing how to relax your muscles after a workout doesn’t have to be difficult.

How To Relax Your Muscles After A Workout

Water Immersion

Water immersion and ice baths have been one of the more recommended ways to relax your muscles after a workout for quite some time. That’s primarily driven by the various benefits that they can offer.

Some of the more notable of these are that they can help with inflammation, blood circulation, and much more. While they mightn’t be the most comfortable way of recovering, they’ve been proven to be worth it.

If you take this approach, you should submerge yourself up to your shoulders. You should also only submerge yourself for between five and 15 minutes at a time. Alternatively, you could variate between equal periods of exposure to hot water and cold water.

Massage Therapy

Quite a few people don’t think of massage therapy when it comes to post-workout recovery. It can offer many more advantages than you’d think, though. One of the more obvious is that it speeds up muscle recovery, which reduces the overall recovery period.

Coupled with that, you’ll see much less muscle and joint inflammation after a workout. That’s somewhat related to the better blood circulation that you’ll see following the massage. That improved blood flow will also help you feel looser after a workout while also impacting recovery time.

As a result, you should see better overall workouts while reducing the time between them.

Heat Therapy

Ice baths work on a relatively similar logic to water immersion and ice baths. It naturally goes about relaxing your muscles in a different way, however. It also offers various other benefits that you might want to take advantage of.

There are also several ways that you could go about this. Perhaps the most notable is by using a sauna. When you’re doing so, however, you’ll need to make sure to avoid dehydration and similar effects.

Using it in the right amounts will have a much larger impact than you’d think. That’s especially true if you do so immediately after a workout.

Wrapping Up

Figuring out how to relax your muscles after a workout can be tricky. With the countless options you can choose from, knowing the better ones from the less recommended can lead to confusion. Each of the above should have a significant impact, however.

The longer they’re used, the more you’ll feel this. Like with all other aspects of working out, patience and persistence can be vital. It could also be worth experimenting with a few of them. Doing so should have much more of an impact than you’d think.
